A day at the races is a great opportunity for you to experiment with patterns, fabrics and colours, more than you would at work perhaps. An obvious race-day fabric choice may be tweed, worn as either just a jacket, two or three piece suit.
However if the weather is hotting up you may need to pick a lighter more breathable fabric like Panama or a Mohair. You can mimic the patterns and colours of tweed but in a lighter weight fabric.
Checks and Stripes are great for the races, in blues, greens and greys for spring. Fashioning a blazer with chinos always suffices on a summery day. The blazer can then be a statement piece if you don’t want to commit to pattern head to toe.
If you are just going for a block colour all over, bring out the pattern with your pocket square or tie.
Footwear is important to consider as something like suede isn’t going to bode well when walking through grass, especially on a wet day. The perfect style for the racecourse grounds are brogues with good tread, in a tan or light brown to go with navy and cream hues.
