If there’s one day above any other when you want to look your absolute best, it has to be your wedding day. Wearing a bespoke suit that’s made to fit you perfectly is one of the best ways to ensure you feel like a million dollars. Created with skill, flair and attention to detail, a beautifully tailored suit will help you stand tall and make what’s already a very special day into an outstanding one.
At Norton & Townsend we make superb quality bespoke wedding suits in Edinburgh. Our suits and tailored garments are made to fit the individual wearer, so rather than putting on a suit that’s made with more of a one-size-fits-all approach, we’ll create something which reflects your unique sense of style and fits you perfectly.
Whilst fashions change at what can seem like an unfathomably fast pace, the techniques used to create bespoke suits date back for centuries. The first stage involves taking numerous measurements which are then drafted onto thick brown paper using a tape measure and chalk. The resulting paper pattern forms the basis of your suit and provided your measurements don’t change too much, can be used again to make other garments in the future.
The next stage in the tailoring process is when our talented team of pattern cutters take to the stage. They’ll use your pattern to cut pieces from your chosen fabric and lining before ‘basting’ them together. At this point we’ll arrange a ‘baste’ fitting during which we’ll ask you to try on your wedding suit for the first time. Because it has been basted (this is the term used to refer to temporary stitching), this allows your tailor to mould the suit to your body shape before the final construction stage is completed.
This stage in the tailoring process offers the perfect opportunity to make any adjustments which may be required, whether to the size and shape of the suit, or to the style and cut. Remember that bespoke tailoring is a collaborative process and so it’s important that you’re completely happy with the cut and fit. If you’re not happy then we’re not happy, so now is the time to discuss any improvements.
The final step is your final fitting appointment and it’s at this appointment that you’ll be able to try on your finished suit for the first time. Your tailor will make thorough assessment to see if any further alterations are required. If they are, we’ll carry these out as quickly as possible.
As already mentioned, the first stage in creating a bespoke wedding suit is to take measurements. This first appointment is also important as it’s your chance to choose your style of suit, fabrics and any other style details. We believe in making the process of choosing and ordering a bespoke suit should be as simple as possible. As travelling tailors, we’ll visit you at your home or office – whichever is most convenient for you.
When choosing a suit for your wedding it’s important to not only pay close attention to what you want to wear, but how the finished suit will fit into the overall style or theme of the wedding. As such, we recommend that your bride comes along too, but if not, your tailor will find out as much as they can about the details of your wedding – venue, bridesmaids dresses, flowers etc., before advising you accordingly.
In addition, our tailors are also experts in making hand tailored shirts, waistcoats and accessories, perfect for creating a stylish, coordinated look at your wedding.
We offer our clients a choice of different superb quality fabrics, ranging from pure wools and cashmere, through to silks, luxury blends and cool crisp linen. We also have a huge range of stunning lining fabrics, available in plain, geometric or decorative patterns, with options to suit all styles and tastes. Don’t worry if all this sounds a little daunting as your tailor will be on hand to guide you through the process, helping you choose fabrics which complement both your personal style and chosen style of suit.
Last and by no means least, choosing a bespoke suit for your wedding day means being able to pick a style which suits you and your wedding. Whether you’re looking for something formal and perhaps a little traditional, or have a tuxedo or lounge suit in mind, your tailor will talk you through the options available.
