Quintessentially British and unquestionably stylish, wearing a made to measure tailored suit is guaranteed to make you look and feel great. Here at Norton and Townsend we are experts in bespoke tailoring in London, with a shop in Yorkshire and a team of high skilled travelling tailors. We offer a bespoke service during which your personal tailor will help you choose a made to measure suit that’s completely unique and designed to fit you.
Over the last couple of centuries Savile Row tailors have been renowned throughout the world for their skill, expertise and attention to detail. Our London tailors are continuing this tradition, providing tailoring services designed to offer unique styling and superb quality. The difference is that our tailors will visit you at home, the office or wherever is most convenient, giving you the chance to choose a bespoke suit that’s made to fit you and only you.
The process is simple and starts with a consultation appointment during which your personal tailor will discuss your requirements and budget, before explaining the options and guiding you through a huge range of fabrics, trims and styling details. Your tailor will take meticulous body measurements, whilst also taking into consideration your posture, body shape and gait. It’s this stage which is perhaps the most important difference between bespoke tailoring and ready to wear: a tailor made suit will fit you perfectly; giving you confidence and ensuring you feel great when you wear it.
Our team of pattern cutters will then get to work on translating your measurements into a card pattern which we’ll keep for future orders. The next stage is fabric cutting, before our skilled seamstresses and machinists will transform each piece into your unique finished suit. If you’ve chosen to have an interim jacket fitting it’s at this point you’ll have the chance to try the partially finished garment on. Any changes will be made using chalk and pins until you, and your tailor, are 100% happy with the fit. If necessary, this stage can be repeated.
Last and by no means least, your suit will undergo a finishing process which includes pressing – an art in itself – followed by final checks to make sure every detail is perfect. Your new suit is now ready for its final fitting at which your personal tailor will ensure everything is spot on. Only once you’re completely satisfied will we ask you to make a final payment.
The process of making a unique bespoke suit takes between 5 and 8 weeks, depending on the fabric, style and route you choose.
