We do a huge amount of wedding suits for stylish grooms and their entourages, so it was great to see our powerful Prince of Wales check feature in the winter issue of Best Scottish Weddings

All these pictures were taken at our latest photoshoot in London.

The photographer was the much-feted Dan Kennedy (www.danielkennedy.com) who has shot everyone from Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley to Richard Branson and Tom Jones.

Richard Biedul, a lawyer by trade (and a good-looking one at that), was our mannequin for the day and put his heart and soul into every shot. Even when we asked him to stand in the rain for half an hour at the end he did so with good humour.

Beth Alderson made sure Richard looked different in every picture and Lloyd Sturdy did an amazing job of capturing the behind-the-scenes footage.

So what really happens on a photoshoot? Naturally there’s a lot of faffing, fiddling and fretting but we got Dan to do a time-lapse video of the whole day so you can see a speeded up version.

Regular DIY Maintenance

Tools you need – lint tape roller, a clothes brush, decent hangers.

Allow at least 24 hours between wearings. Wool is naturally resilient but needs time to shed wrinkles and regain its original shape.

Empty pockets at the end of the day or you are asking for saggy pockets.

Use a wooden or padded plastic hanger with a generous shoulder. Never use thin plastic or wire hangers for tailoring.

Avoid hanging a jacket or coat by the neck, on a coat hook or the back of a chair.

If a wool garment gets damp, hang it out of direct sunlight. Brush it after it has dried.

Don’t press a garment if it’s stained. The heat of pressing will set the stain and likely make its removal impossible. Always take garments with stubborn stains to the dry cleaner as soon as possible.

Always blot a stain, do not rub it in.

Unless you have a spill or stain, you should only dry clean once at the end of the season.

Grooms are letting down the brides on their big day by turning up in ill-fitting and characterless hire suits, a leading tailor said today.

With brides spending, on average, a month’s salary on their dream dress, their husbands-to-be are crushing the fairytale fantasy with their slovenly approach.

Research carried out by bespoke tailors Norton & Townsend shows that less than one in 10 grooms get a suit specially made for their big day, with most opting for a local hire shop.

Norton & Townsend boss Austen Pickles believes it’s time men made more of an effort for the girl of their dreams.

“I’m constantly amazed that women go to such lengths to look a million dollars on their wedding day and yet men think it’s okay to borrow a suit, shirt and tie which doesn’t really fit,” he said.

“There is no day more important than your wedding and yet men, in general, look absolutely awful.”

“The pictures from your wedding day will last a lifetime so do you really want to be reminded how bad you looked for years on end?”

Austen said the suit was “as important as your speech” and urged men to make the effort.

Naturally there are huge regional variations, with men in the south east twice as likely to wear a bespoke suit (eight per cent) than the UK average. Nonetheless it was a damning indictment of the British bridegroom.

The survey of 657 men in an online poll showed 64 per cent cringed when they looked back at their wedding pictures and a massive 89 per cent would get a bespoke suit if they had their time again.

Austen explained: “Quite simply, the better the quality in terms of cloth, construction, fit and style, the better the groom will look and feel. “The point is that a bespoke suit doesn’t have to break the bank. Our suits start at £495 and it gives men access to thousands of fabrics that are made by the finest mills in the world – predominantly British and Italian. The measurements that are taken are precise, the patterns are all cut individually and the garments are then sewn by tailors with years of experience using traditional methods.

“It’s not just the fit though. Let’s face it, most men hate shopping. They don’t have the time or inclination to trawl the shops trying to find the perfect suit and often become increasingly frustrated when they can’t find jackets or trousers in their size.

“However, as we are visiting tailors, we see our clients by appointment at their workplace or home to discuss their requirements and take measurements. So, no crowds, no stress and no time wasting.”
